ORTOM SIGNS PENCOM ESTABLISHMENT BILL, TWO OTHERS INTO LAW By Jimin Geoffrey Governor Samuel Ortom yesterday signed into law a bill for the establishment of Benue State Contributory Pensions Scheme, PENCOM, in order to address the challenge of payment of pensions and gratuities of retirees. The Governor also assented to the bill for a law to provide for the administration of Criminal Justice in the Courts of Benue State and for purposes connected therewith. Also assented to by the Governor was a bill for a law to prohibit all forms of violence against persons in private and public life, provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and for purposes connected therewith. Governor Ortom stated during the occasion that his administration had taken it upon itself to domesticate laws that have positive impact on the state and enact those that would address challenges confronting the state. ORTOM APPRECIATES PARADE MOUNTED IN HIS HONOUR By Jimin Geoffrey Governor Samuel Ortom has appreciated the security agencies for the impressive parade mounted in his honour as part of activities lined up for his inauguration today at the IBB Square Makurdi. The Governor who stated this after inspecting the parade commended the Nigerian Police for being professional in their conduct even when the state was confronted with security challenges. He also commended sister security agencies for their enormous contributions to the restoration of peace in the state, saying they had done their best in combating criminality and killings in the Food Basket State. He sympathized with families of fallen heroes who died in the course of defending the state, even as he ordered for the observation of a one minute silence in their honour. The Governor also prayed God to grant the fallen heroes eternal rest.

Supreme Court Asked To Stop Buhari’s Inauguration naijanewsJ.com JjMay 28, 2019 1:56 AM One of the political parties that participated in the February 23 presidential election,  Hope Democratic Party (HDP)  has asked the Supreme Court to stop the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari slated for Wednesday, May 29. Naija News  reports that the party made this known in a notice of appeal filed to the Supreme Court on Friday, May 24, where the party faulted the striking out of its motion on the notice by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on May 22, on the ground of lack of merit.

BREAKING: APC loses Zamfara as supreme court voids all party votes in guber poll Chinedu Asadu   in Inside NigeriaOn the GoTop StoriesZamfara The supreme court has dismissed an appeal challenging the nullification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections in Zamfara. At its sitting on Friday, the court voided all votes cast for the party during the general elections. The apex court ordered that the runner-up candidate be sworn in if he fulfils the constitutional requirement of getting one quarter of the total votes cast in at least two-third of the local government areas of the state The appeal was filed by Mukhtar Shehu, the state governor-elect, challenging the judgment of a Sokoko appellate court which nullified the ruling party’s primaries in the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he respects the Judiciary and is willing to abide by its decisions at all times. Speaking at an  Iftar  dinner with the representatives of the third arm of the government, the Judiciary, at his official residence, President Buhari said he believed that the judiciary should be independent and recalled how he submitted himself to the adjudication of the courts three times on his way to becoming President without any fuss because “I respect the institution. I have come before you three times before I got here on the fourth run for the office. It was an emotional session spiced with some drama. The President recalled that some cabinet ministers with whom he started the journey were not at yesterday’s valedictory session. And ministers took turns to relive their experiences with him. The ministers are to handover their portfolios on May 28. President Buhari gave the directive during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) valedictory session at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Handover notes, he said, should be submitted to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
